Sister Mary Monica

Sister Mary Monica died peacefully on October 15, 2011, at the age of 86.

She is survived by her brother, Harrison Wood, who lives in New Jersey. 

Sister entered the institute of the Religious Sisters of Mercy on September 24, 1977, and made profession of perpetual vows on April 27, 1982. For many years, Sister Mary Monica was the archivist of the Religious Sisters of Mercy at their Motherhouse in Alma, Michigan. She also collected stamps, receiving many as gifts from friends. 

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. 

Services are being provided by the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca.

Sidney Bruce Wesenberg

Sidney B. Wesenberg, age 89, of Alma, formerly of Lansing, died Monday, May 23, 2011, at Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma.

Sid was born in Harrison, Michigan, February 6, 1922, the son of William F. and Ida (Buerge) Wesenberg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores.

Funeral services for Sid will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, at the Newark Church of God in Christ - Mennonite. Interment will follow in Hayes Road Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Sharon Lee (Edgar) Clark

Beloved mother and grandmother, Sharon Lee Clark, 62, of St. Louis, passed away on February 14, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 4, 1948 to Bernard and Genevieve (Schlemmer) Edgar of Breckenridge. She married Wayne Clark of Ithaca on March 26, 1966.

Sharon lived in Ithaca for 30 years before moving to St. Louis. She worked at Wolverine Worldwide, Explorer Boat Company, and Commercial National Bank. She owned and operated Heritage Flowers for several years before she semi-retired to care for her grandchildren.

She loved to work in her flowerbeds, spend summers camping and fishing with her family and friends, enjoyed crafts, painting, sewing, and spending time with her dog Bandit.

Sharon is survived by her loving husband Wayne Clark; daughters Melanie (Jeff) Baxter of St. Louis, Melissa (Ron) Hoag of Ithaca; six grandchildren, Grayson (fiancé Kristin Travis), Chelsea and Chloe Baxter; Hannah, Noah, and Isaiah Hoag; Mother Genevieve Edgar of Breckenridge; sister and best friend Karen (Mike) Humphrey of St. Louis, Barry (Sue) Edgar of Wisconsin, Mike (Lori) Edgar of St. Louis; and many very close and dear family and friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her father Bernard Edgar.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to establish funding at MidMichigan Gratiot Cancer Center, for those patients in need.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 16, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Funeral services for Sharon will be 11am, Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Barden Funeral Home. A luncheon will follow at the Ithaca Community Center.

Sandra Therese Van De Perre

Sandra T. Van De Perre, age 56, of Ithaca, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011.

Sandra was born November 3, 1954 to Walter and Eleanor (Baranski) Siekierka in Detroit, Michigan. She married Michael Van De Perre May 21, 1989 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sandra loved to read and listen to music - especially AC/DC. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, scrapbooking, and spending time with her YaYa Sisterhood and all of their friends. She especially loved her nephew John and niece Hollie. Sandra loved life and loved to laugh until her face hurt. She enjoyed sitting around a bonfire and on the front porch. She had the biggest heart in the world and was always doing something for others.

Sandra is survived by her husband Mike of Ithaca; mother Eleanor of Milford, Michigan; stepson Clint (Becca) Guethlein of Wayne; son Kirk Guethlein of Ithaca, daughter Nanisa Van De Perre of Lansing; grandchildren Ash and Willow Guethlein; sisters Diane (Mike) Cunningham of Port Ritchey Florida, Susan (Joe) Dziengowski of Ypsilanti, Denise (Darryn) Lazar of Clarkston; brother Walter (Kelli) Siekierka of Milford, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Sandra will be 11am, Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca with Deacon John Cremon officiating. Visitation will be held 2-4pm and 6-8pm, Friday July 8, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ithaca Food Pantry at the Ithaca Presbyterian Church.

Ruth Flegel

Ruth Flegel, age 85, of Ithaca passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011 at her home.

Ruth was born July 30, 1926 in Saginaw County to Albert and Hattie (Hopkins) Souden. She was a graduate of St. Charles High School Class of 1944.

Ruth married Romaine D. Flegel in August of 1947. He preceded her in death in April of 2007.

Ruth is a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, as well as a Cub Scout leader, and 4-H Leader. She enjoyed playing guitar, organ, and piano as well as playing her hammered dulcimer with the dulcimer group. She also loved cooking, sewing and bowling on her league.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Barbara Flegel (Larry Andrews); son Ronald (Brenda Crooks), her granddaughter, Arlene Anderson-Vincent (David) of Mecosta; her sister, Bertha (Jay) Elsworth, of Chapin; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Romaine, parents Albert and Hattie, sisters Helen and Lucille, and brother Trooper Albert W. Souden.

Funeral services for Ruth will be 2 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Edgewood Church of God, with Pastor Dave Perry officiating. Interment will follow at North Star Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5 and 6-8 pm Wednesday, September 21, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Memorial contributions may be made to Mid-Michigan Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.
